“Umuntu wa Bantu!”

Brian Mushimba, while new to the political scene in Zambia, is not new to Zambia. Brian's roots run deep into the rich heritage of our beautiful nation and have made him the man he is today. He hails from humble beginnings and a family of 16 children. Family values, trust, honesty and hard work were instilled in him from the time he was a toddler.

Brian and Brenda have been married for 19 years and have two beautiful young boys. Brian did his primary and part of his junior secondary school education in Kankoyo where he met Amos Malupenga the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. Brian and Mr. Malupenga are still great friends and have constantly been in touch over the years.

Brian proceeded to the prestigious Mplelembe Secondary School where he completed his Grade 12 and went on to do his Form Six under the ZCCM academic scholarship program. Brian holds a Bachelors of Science Degree (BSc) in Mining Engineering from the University of Arizona in the United States of America. He holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), both from Salem International University in the USA. He also holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from Strathmore Business School in Kenya and currently he is a PHD candidate in Environmental Engineering at the University of Zambia (UNZA). To top it all, he is a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia EIZ.

Work Experience

Brian worked for seven years at Siemens Power Generation in the USA as an Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, Design Engineer and Project Manager. While working at Siemens, he commissioned roughly 10,000 Megawatts of new capacity onto the USA national power grid as the lead commissioning engineer on those projects.

He has previously worked at Lafarge cement in the USA as Engineering Manager and also had a three year stint at the Lafarge Zambian branch in Chilanga where he also worked as Engineering and Maintenance Manager. Brian's work experience also includes years of service at Pratt and Whitney power systems in the USA as the Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Product Line Manager in charge of power plant asset base and fleet management.

Brian also worked at Eskom in South Africa firstly as the Technical Director for three years and later as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eskom subsidiary in Uganda.

Currently, Brian is the Regional Director for Africa for the Norwegian State owned electricity utility, Statkraft overseeing their growth agenda in the hydropower generating business assets on on the African continent and the expansion efforts in the greater Africa (Hydro power electricity generation). His vast worldwide work experience gives him a strong foundation to bring about positive change to Zambia. Brian Mushimba will no doubt make a great parliamentarian.
